My Face Lift In A Compact

main_web
Suzanne Somer’s Face Master

I like to call this my personal “face lift in a compact”. The Suzanne Somer’s “Face Master”. It uses electromagnetic wave energy (micro current) to stimulate and tone the skin and facial muscles. It works great to kill the bacteria that causes acne!

The year I attended beauty college was one of the most financially strapped years of my life. I could not afford expensive beauty products. But, I DID own a Face Master. I used it 3-4 times a week back then. I was dealing with unusually oily skin. I know now it was caused from lots of stress and the Texas heat stimulating my oil glands in to overdrive!

At the age of 38, I was desperate for something that could help me with anti-aging and skin tone. I started to use my Face Master out of necessity. I noticed firmer, toner skin. I also noticed smaller pore size and way less break outs! My skin glowed!

Here’s another plus…It plumps your lips! Whenever I have used the feathering technique around my lips there is visible plumping! One of my instructors at school used to have me bring it to school and plump up her lips before a night out!

https://www.facemaster.com/?gclid=CNGd2IK9k70CFY0-MgodPzMAug

O.K. it gets even better. One of the Rep’s for a popular skin line came to our school to demonstrate microderm to our class. She took one look at me and said to the instructor “I want whatever SHE is using!”. I told her” it’s just my Face Master!”

No, I do not work for Suzanne Somers or Face Master. I am simply passing on some really valuable information to those who are interested in this amazing product!

Thank you so much for reading my blog. Now go get your Face Master! I LOVE mine!

Homemade Honey-Almond Scrub

AS5

Here’s an easy to make honey almond scrub recipe that also doubles as a masque. I made this one today and used it on my friend Monica. Her skin was so soft and dewy afterwards!

The almonds make a gentle manual exfoliating scrub. The honey acts as a hydration and a soothing anti-inflammatory. The coconut milk is cleansing and moisturizing.  The cinnamon is great for circulation and moving toxins out of the skin.

The Ingredients:

1.  1/4 Cup Raw Almonds (Ground up in blender). Be careful not to over blend , or you may end up with almond butter!

2.  1 Tablespoon Raw Honey

3.  2 Tablespoons Coconut Milk

4.  1 Pinch of  Cinnamon

Carefully grind raw almonds in your blender or food processor (pulse).

AS3

Separately mix in the raw honey with the coconut milk and the cinnamon.

Almond Scrub

Add in your ground almonds and mix with spoon or wooden stick. Add additional coconut milk if necessary for desired consistency. Preferably thick.

~You can use this scrub all over the body. Apply to dampened skin and rub in circular motions. Let sit for at least ten minutes for masque benefits, then rinse off with warm water and/or a wash cloth.

Enjoy!!!!

Please let me know if you make this recipe, I would love to hear what you thought of it!!

Cucumber-Ginger-Seaweed Masque Recipe

Masque In Ramekin

Here is a fun masque recipe loaded with nutrients to invigorate and nourish dull lifeless skin…

I just made this masque this morning for a friend. The aromas of fresh cucumber and ginger will make you swoon! Her skin had a soft dewy glow afterwards. And I cannot wait to try out  the leftovers tonight on myself ❤  Meanwhile, mine is chillin in the fridge!

Add the ingredients below to your blender and blend on high until smooth~

1. Tablespoon Fresh Lemon Juice

2. 2 Tablespoons Plain Yogurt

3. 1-2 Ounces Irish Seaweed (Soaked for 8 hours, then rinse and add to Masque)

4. 1 1/2 Tablespoons Coconut Milk

5. 1/4 of a Medium Cucumber (peeled)

6. 1/4 Cup Fresh Young Thai Coconut Meat

1. Small piece (1/2 inch) of Fresh Peeled Ginger Root

Blend Ingredients in your blender for 2-3 minutes.  Masque will be consistency of pudding. Add more seaweed if necessary to thicken. The Seaweed will thicken masque nicely. Chill in refrigerator for 30 minutes or longer prior to use.

MASQUE IN BLENDER

You can lather this masque on all over your body. Rub it into the skin in circular motions. Allow it to set for at least 10 minutes before removing with a warm wash cloth, or in the shower.

About The Ingredients~

LEMON~ Has Vitamin C  For antioxidant benefits. Citric Acid acts as a mild skin peel and skin lightener. A wonderful natural exfoliant.

YOGURT~ Moisturizes the skin, fights acne bacteria, prevents premature aging, soothes sunburned and/or inflamed skin. Helps prevent discoloration of the skin.

IRISH MOSS SEAWEED~  Can be purchased at your local health food store, or on Amazon.com. Helps move toxins out of the skin. Reduces redness and irritation. Nourishes the skin with essential nutrients and minerals missing in most modern diets.

CUCUMBER~ Has a natural cooling effect on the skin. Anti-inflammatory, hydrating, soothing. It can help protect your skin from sun damage. That’s because it’s packed with antioxidants like vitamin C and caffeic acid. As an added bonus, the vitamin C also increases collagen and elastin production, resulting in younger-looking skin.

YOUNG THAI COCONUT MEAT~ Has minerals, it’s hydrating and moisturizing to the skin. Anti-viral and anti-bacterial.

GINGER~  Ginger is important to skin health because the elasticity and firmness of skin is what starts to deteriorate with aging. So ginger will help to preserve the skin’s youthful strength and elasticity and slow down the signs of aging. It is ant-bacterial, anti-viral, and it reduces inflammation. A great acne fighter when rubbed directly on to skin.

COCONUT MILK~ The high fat content in coconut milk makes it the perfect skin cleanser. Fats bind to other fats and especially dirt on the skin. Coconut milk binds the impurities and lifts them off of your skin. Skin feels clean and fresh without drying out. Coconut is full of anti-oxidants and also has an anti-bacterial nature to it.  Hydrates skin without over moisturizing.

Thank you for stopping by my blog!

SINCERELY,

CAROLINE

Favorite Products For August

It has been a while since I have posted a list of favorite products. I thought it would be fun to make a new list for this month and maybe consecutive months to follow. The list will contain a whole variety of different products that are tried and true in my book…

1. Palmer’s Oil~

The first product has so many nourishing ingredients for the skin. Palmer’s is often overlooked in the drugstore and supermarkets. I think most folks just graze right over it and look at the more appealing packaging and fancy names of other brands.

I know that Bio-Oil is VERY popular among some swimsuit models. Perhaps they should look at the mineral oil (yikes!) listed on the back with the ingredients first. I’ll admit I purchased some at Costco (forgot my reading glasses and missed the mineral oil!). I even used some and was impressed by how emollient it felt on my skin.

Once I discovered the mineral oil, well, now  I’ll just stick to my Palmer’s with all of its awesome benefits and properties!

2. Eminence Bearberry Eye Repair Cream~

Where to begin with this one? Let’s start with the fact that it is a result of “Biodynamic Farming” (In a nutshell, it’s farming that utilizes the moon phases, no not hocus pocus but REAL phases in the moon.

When there is a New Moon, the moisture in the soil is at its highest, (that’s when the planting is done!).

This eye cream is gentle enough for me to use on my entire eye area, including lids! Not too heavy, and it feels amazing! It brightens and hydrates perfectly!

3.  Eminence Organic Bamboo Firming Fluid~

I noticed a difference after the first use! Bamboo helps to strengthen elastin fibers. It’s firming and toning as well.

This product is for normal to dry skin. I am normal to oily,  and it is not too heavy for me at all.

It smells wonderful, feels wonderfully light and hydrating. Great underneath make-up as well! The perfect natural anti-aging moisturizer!

4. Exfoliating Skin Towel~

I know some people like loofahs, but I find them a bit harsh to my sensitive skin. I choose to use an exfoliating towel instead.

I lather it up in the shower with my favorite soap and scrub from head to toe every day. It’s gentle, yet exfoliating. I can manipulate it (scrub my back easily!).

I can’t live without this towel! I have been using one (of course I change them out regularly !lol) since the late 90’s!

5. Dead Sea Salt~

I am crazy for this stuff! It is detoxifying and hydrating. It nourishes the skin with essential nutrients and minerals. A Dead Sea Salt bath before bed is relaxing and rejuvenating!

6. Too Faced “No Make-Up Make-Up” Palette~

This has some of the best products in one palette I have ever used. Love the Luminize for accenting the upper lip and tips of eyebrows, the cream blush leaves just a hint of color on cheeks AND lips! The brightener is fantastic under and over cheekbones ! THREE tutorials with suggestions! Wow!

Fighting Hyperpigmentation

The skin problem I get the most complaints about? Hyperpigmentation. It seems that most of us are destined to deal with this problem at some point in our lives. It can come in many forms. I won’t list them all, but here are a few…Age Spots, Melasma/Mask of pregnancy, Sun damage, Freckles (Mottling), inflammation and trauma to the skin.

Hyperpigmentation happens when the skin produces too many melanocytes in particular areas on the body. Heat and Sun exposure cause these melanocytes to rise to the surface and darken the skin.

People with darker Asian, Mediterranean, or African skin tones are also more prone to hyperpigmentation, especially if they have excess sun exposure.

These skin problems have been studied for many years with various explanations and solutions. I am not going to list them all out, but I will state a few possibilities.

Typical treatments of hyperpigmentation may include hydroquinone, kojic acid , alpha hydroxyl acids , azelaic acid, ascorbic acid, tretinoin (Retinol), topical glucocorticoids, and licorice extract. To help prevent these dark spots, sunscreen may be applied.

Some people believe that certain forms of hyperpigmentation are the result of a toxic liver. Others say it is a result of the Sun damage from hours in the Sun or a natural consequence of getting older. And then we have the hormonal changes from pregnancy and menopause combined with Sun exposure and so on.

So we DO know that heat can exasperate hyperpigmentation and make it worse. We also know that Sun exposure can do this as well as tanning beds.

Certain professional peels and lasers can also make this problem worse. Heredity also plays a role as to the severity or the predisposition to have hyperpigmentation.

So are you a person that wants to treat the core of the problem or the symptom or both? That’s a loaded question I know! I am one of those that wants to treat them both. Talk about taking the hardest route possible!

I suggest you start with the symptoms and then move on to the possible core when you start to see results, or you may give up the fight all together!

Here are some suggestions…

1.   Start with using products that will lighten the skin naturally. I am not a Retin-A user! I won’t bore you with the why, that is another blog post…I am just not a fan!

2.   Avoid hot showers (warm is ok!) and hot baths, Jacuzzi’s etc..,

3.   Avoid direct Sun on trouble areas. I say trouble areas because moderate Sun exposure is healthy for Vitamin D production as well as certain hormones and even food digestion!

4. Avoid deep peels that cause heat production. (TCA etc.,)

5.   Avoid lasers that cause too much heat. I actually recommend going to a school to get your laser work done…The Instructors here know which lasers to recommend for those dealing with hyperpigmentation. It is also more affordable for the budget conscious individual.

6.   Use an LED light. You can purchase a 3-way light on Amazon. The green light helps to discourage melanin activity in the skin. Not to mention numerous other benefits. Use this faithfully to lighten and brighten the skin! You may apply a lightening serum before use with added benefits.

7.   Never over exfoliate the skin…This includes microderm, peels, and manual as well as chemical exfoliants that can irritate and cause further damage.

8.  Use a good Sunscreen. A broad Spectrum Sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. Go higher for more Sun exposure (A day at the beach calls for a 50!). Allow your Sunscreen at least 15 minutes to absorb (Chemical reaction with skin to be effective takes 15 minutes!)before exposure.

9.   Dust minerals over your skin for added and immediate protection. Minerals are an instant protection, as these minerals sit flat on the skin surface and deflect Sun rays instantly.

So here are some products I recommend using to fight your hyperpigmentation:

1. Eminence Organics Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant is gentle enough to use every day (2-3 times a week is good!) and it has lactic acid in it which is a gentle and natural skin lightener.

2. Eminence Organics Bright Skin Collection is the perfect natural alternative to traditional solutions. Try these products, use them faithfully for best results!

3. I cannot praise my Aurora Hand held LED enough…With three different lights for your skin concerns, My skin has lightened and brightened. It took several weeks to see the big difference. This is a “cannot live without” product for me! I will take it on vacation! Always! (Another Blog Post!)

4. Eminence Bright Skin Serum has licorice (A known natural skin lightener). A great companion to the LED light. Dot on to cleansed skin before using your LED light, then finish your skin routine after.

5. Dr. Natura Detox. Start a regular detoxing regime to clean out your liver and colon. Just a suggestion that couldn’t hurt. There are some studies that show this helps.

In closing I would like to note that I obviously did not cover all of the causes or possible solutions for hyperpigmentation. That would take far too long. However, I want to note that my solutions are natural ones.

This is because my personal experience is that whenever I have chosen the medical route to treat this issue personally, I have seen the condition worsen. Harsh laser treatments and peels can make this problem much worse than the original problem. So try the natural route first, is my suggestion.

Stick with it, whatever regime you choose. Results will come with persistence and a consistent skin routine that addresses the problem!

Have a great week and thank you so much for reading my blog!

XOXOX,

Caroline;)

Homemade Seaweed Masque

SEAWEED

You can create your own seaweed masque simple and easy at home. Seaweed has so many wonderful properties in it for skin health and overall appearance. It is loaded with minerals and anti inflammatory properties.

This masque also has many other ingredients that make it a wonderful alternative to expensive store bought masques.

The ingredients are all active, fresh and natural without any preservatives.

This masque works for any skin type!

Here are the ingredients:

1. 1 cup of Irish Moss Seaweed soaked for 8 hours or more. (Fully immerse in a jar of water, store in fridge over night until plumped)

2. 1/2 of a Fresh Ripe Organic Avocado

3. 1/4 Cup of Organic Whole Plain Yogurt

4. 1 Tablespoon of Organic Raw Honey

5. 1/2 Cup of Coconut Milk

6. 1 Tablespoon of Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice

Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth. This may take several minutes depending on your blender. Chill Masque in fridge for 2 hours. Apply over cleansed, exfoliated skin. You may use this recipe all over your body and store it in the fridge for up to a week.

You also might want to add more coconut milk for consistency after being stored for a few days.

Leave masque on for 10-15 minutes, then gently remove with a warm wash cloth.

Make sure to moisturize and add sunscreen after use to avoid sun damage. This recipe includes lemon juice which is a natural exfoliant.

IRISH MOSS~

Can be purchased at your local health food store or online at Amazon and other places. This is an excellent anti-inflammatory.

It also helps to move toxins out of the skin and body (when taken internally). Reduces redness and irritation.

Nourishes the skin with essential minerals missing in most modern diets.

http://www.kwintessential.co.uk/articles/ireland/irish-moss-health-benefits/2058

AVOCADOS~

Avocados are rich with vitamin A which helps to remove dead skin cells from your body. They also contain an amino acid known as glutamine, which cleans and protects your skin from environmental damage. The antioxidants in avocados help to get rid of toxins that promote premature aging and wrinkling of the skin.

RAW HONEY~

Acne and enlarged pores
Rosacea
Eczema
Hyperpigmentation
Sensitive, mature, and dull lifeless skin

* Raw honey also contains gluconic acid, a mild alpha hydroxy acid that brightens the complexion, evens out skin tone, and lightens scars and age spots.

COCONUT MILK~

The great thing about Coconut milk is that it’s extremely high in fat, which makes it the perfect cleanser to use on the skin. Most of the dirt on our skin consists of various oils and other fat-soluble materials. This is the reason that you can’t shower with water alone and expect to truly get clean; oils only really want bind to other oils.

Since Coconut milk is high in fat, it will easily pick up all these fat-soluble particles, leaving your skin clean and fresh, but not completely dried out afterwards.

Coconut is full of antioxidants, and is also thought to be possibly antibacterial in nature. Those with acne especially can benefit from these possible antibacterial properties.

LEMON JUICE~

Lemon juice may aid in diminishing the appearance of scars and age spots. It may also reduce the appearance of scars left behind from acne lesions. The citric acid contained in lemon juice works as a mild skin peel by removing the outermost layer of your skin and reducing shine.

ORGANIC PLAIN YOGURT~

When applied topically, yogurt will moisturize, fight acne, prevent premature aging, soothe sunburn and help prevent discoloration of the skin.
